Development of Efficacy and Safety Tests for Cosmetics and Pharmaceuticals
  • Creachem sets milestones in scientific progress.
  • Worldwide standards through development of innovative methods and instruments
Institut Dr. Schrader Creachem GmbH is the scientific and technological heart of the Group. Creachem's findings and developments make it possible to test and evaluate the efficacy and safety of cosmetic and pharmaceutical products with ever more mature and advanced technologies and methods. Practice-oriented background research thus provides the basis for consumer information on the efficacy and safety of cosmetic products. At the same time it provides for the cosmetic and pharmaceutical industries the fundamental knowledge they need to develop, test and evaluate new product ideas to be able to formulate new products for the market. The Institute works in the fields of biophysics and toxicology.

Biophysics

The biophysics division of Institut Dr. Schrader Creachem GmbH has set numerous milestones in scientific progress. Its development of technology for test instruments like the Sebumeter for measurement of skin surface lipids and the Corneometer for determination of skin hydration was pioneering. The instruments and associated methods have become global standards.

Outstanding methods developed under the direction of Institut Dr. Schrader Creachem GmbH are based on such technologies as remission spectroscopy, surface topometry and photoemission of skin and hair.

Foremost in Testing and Evaluation of Sunscreens

An especially good example of successful technological development is our work on sun protection. As early as the eighties the Institute questioned through its founder Dr. Karlheinz Schrader determination of the sun protection factor according to the German Industrial Standard 67501 valid at that time. In 1994 the COLIPA guideline for measurement of the sun protection factor was developed in collaboration with Institut Dr. Schrader Creamchem GmbH.

Institut Dr. Schrader Creachem GmbH engages in interdisciplinary collaboration on the technological development of measuring instruments with scientists from different fields, colleges and universities.

Institut Dr. Schrader Creachem GmbH is a member of the Research Foundation of the Cosmetic Industry, which is a member organization of the AiF (Federation of Industrial Research Associations "Otto von Guericke").
