For decades the Biophysics Department of Institut Dr. Schrader Creachem GmbH has been involved in the innovative development of test methods that can be used to determine the efficacy of cosmetics on the basis of objective criteria. The Institute investigates which objective criteria describe skin physiological processes and how these can be used for quantification of these processes. Based on this research the Institute continuously develops new methods and instruments. Measuring instruments from Institute Dr. Schrader such as the Sebumeter for measurement of skin surface lipids and the Corneometer for determination of skin hydration have become into global standards.
The spectrum of research activities that the Biophysics Department of the Institut Dr. Schrader Creachem GmbH is involved in is extensive. It ranges from measurement of the photostability of UVA and UVB filters to optimization of hair colors to even single photon counting by direct measurement on human skin.
