Integrated into the Schrader Group is the Test Studio for Applied Hair Cosmetology, where primarily the technical hairstyling properties of hair cosmetic products are tested. At a total of three testing stations in-use tests are performed on a selected population of volunteers under simulated conditions of use.
Subjective evaluation in volunteer tests:
- Comparative product testing in the half-head test
- Shampoos
- Conditioners (Rinse on and Rinse off products)
- Hair sprays
- Hair dyes (examples: colorations, toners,
eyebrow and eyelid colors, beard colors)
- Hair styling products (gel, mousse, etc.)
- Build-up effect of products
- Efficacy of anti-dandruff products
- Washing resistance of hair colors
- Application tests (home in-use tests):
- Hair care products
- Hair styling products
Besides the subjective evaluation by experienced hairdressers, the following objective test methods are performed in the Test Studio:
Objective evaluation:
- Testing of the anti-dandruff efficacy using quantitative image analysis
- Hair tensile strength measurement
- UV resistance of hair dyes and color protection products
- Washing resistance of hair dyes and color protection products
- Curl retention test
- Measurement of hair thickness
- Measurement of hair density
- Testing of anti-grease efficacy
- Determination of hair damage using chemiluminescence (ICL-H)
- Testing of the moisturizing effect of hair care products
Dermatologically controlled studies:
- Hair growth promoting products using Trichoscan®
- Beard growth retarding products using Trichoscan®
- Anti-dandruff studies
